SUMMARY:RPSC Stamp Talks "Fakes and Forgeries" - - 12 Jun 23 19:00
DESCRIPTION:RPSC Presents:  Stamp Talks\n\nFakes and Forgeries\n\nJune 12\
 , 7 p.m. EST\nRegistration:  here\n\nYou will receive an email with the m
eeting information after registering. The meeting room will open at 6:50 p
.m. and the webinar will begin at 7.\n\nKen Pugh\n\nKen was born in Britis
h Columbia and started collecting stamps at age eight. He became intereste
d in collecting forgeries when he examined his collection of pre 1920 Turk
ish stamps with a copy of Billig\, and found that 95% of what he thought w
as a genuine reference collection was forged. He now collected Turkish for
geries! His interest in British North American forgeries came from acquir
ing a set of six Senf specimen overprint forgeries of Nova Scotia\, and so
me Spiro forgeries of British Columbia.\n\nHe found that reference materia
l on B.N.A. forgeries was scant\, and as his collection grew\, acquiring n
ecessary information to ‘write-up’ the expanding collection of forgeri
es became increasingly frustrating. What he needed was a reference that fu
lly described the forgery and illustrated it in a large size photo format.
There being no such reference available\, he decided to produce his own.
A new series is in preparation and illustrates the forgeries of non-BNA co
untries.\n\nKen has one of the largest working reference collections of B.
N.A. fakes\, forgeries\, and counterfeits in existence. A former director
of The RPSC\, Ken is also a member of BNAPS.\n\nKen is a retired teacher w
ho won several provincial and national awards for his teaching. He continu
es to teach photography and palaeontology at his local university. When no
t working as a photographer or collecting fossils. He is married to Lilian
 e\, also a teacher\, and has four children.\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n
